Maca is a root vegetable that grows in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Like cabbage and broccoli, it is a member of the cruciferous family. Maca was traditionally used as an energy-booster by the indigenous people of South America, and is packed with phytonutrients. It is known as an “adaptogen”, a name given to certain herbs reputed to help the body adapt to stress.
